DOT Random Testing Pool Calculator
If your fleet employs CDL drivers, they must be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. Enter how many CDL drivers you have to estimate your annual random-test obligation.
How the rates work
- Drugs: the FMCSA minimum annual random rate is 50% of the average number of driver positions.
- Alcohol: the minimum annual random rate is 10%.
- Selections must be truly random, spread through the year (typically quarterly), unannounced, and documented. A driver can be selected twice in a row — every driver is in every draw.
These are statistical minimums for the whole pool. Small operators usually meet them through a consortium/third-party administrator — but the recordkeeping and the duty to ground a driver on a positive stay with you.
